Law Enforcement, Physicians in East, Middle and West Collaborate to Combat Complex State Problems

The Tennessee Prescription Safety Program will host a series of Summits that will kick off in April, teaming with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to narrow the differences between the medical and law enforcement communities about how to reduce prescription drug abuse in Tennessee.

The Law Enforcement and Prescribers Summits (LEAPS) will provide a forum for both sides to share their experiences in the field, address common concerns and find common ground on a leading drug problem for Tennesseans. Specifically, the LEAPS will provide:
•    Physicians the opportunity to educate law enforcement on the professionally accepted Standards of Care in pain management and prescription protocol
•    Law enforcement the opportunity to educate healthcare providers on their legal responsibilities in prescribing controlled substances
